The Department of Anthropology will welcome Bridget Haas, visiting assistant professor of anthropology, to Case Western Reserve University for a book talk on her forthcoming book Suspended Lives: Navigating Everyday Violence in the US Asylum System.
Haas’s book explores the experience of asylum seekers in the midwestern United States in vivid detail. Drawing on long-term ethnographic fieldwork among Cameroonian and other African asylum seekers, Haas traces the emotional and social effects of being embedded in the US asylum regime.
